Toyota motor corporation along with its Indian partners Kirlosker launched luxury SUV Fortuner in India . The Fortuner SUV was first introduced in 2005 . So far it sold more than 250000 units world over . The new Fortuner 2009 in India is specially tested and built for Indian roads . Large wheel base and ground clearance and all time four wheel drive might help Fortuner to be stable SUV in Indian conditions. The big surprise made by Toyota is on the price . We expected it to be over 20 lakhs But surprisingly it will cost only near 18 lakhs ,making it near competitor to Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander, Chevrolet Captiva, Suzuki Grand Vitara and Ford Endeavour and other offroaders out there . Toyota Fortuner will be powered by a 3.0 L diesel engine that will deliver 171PS @ 3600rpm. The interior and exterior facilities needs no appraisal .
Toyota will manufacture Fortuner in its Bangalore plant .They plans to sell approximately 2500 Fortuners in this fiscal year . But as as per reports it got more than 1000 bookings before official launch .

Currently the model has only the above mentioned diesel variant . Fortuner is exactly what we call an offroader-city rider SUV. It has 4695mm in length, 1840mm breadth and 1850mm in height. Standard Climate Control AC, Optitron meter, multi-information display, steering control switches, posh leather interiors, bluetooth connectivity, extra air conditioning vents, cruise control ,navigator system ,265/65 R17 tubeless radials ,chrome ORVM, front fog lamps, bonnet scoop,front wiper with intermittent function, ABS ,6 spoke alloy wheels are few of the many features of new Fortuner 2009 for India . Fortuner has passed several crash test before its introduced to Indian markets . But has only 2 airbags to offer !! .

That’s great but I wonder how many Indians will be able to buy this as it’s quite expensive and with SUVs like Scorpio selling their new and automatic variants for like around 11 lacs,, its a tough market condition with people looking to spend less and value-for-money gaining ground!

Scorpio is the best entry level SUV in India. It can never die. A CRV here and a Fortunrt there cannot replace its position. Scorpio is full Value-for-Money SUV and a road presence of its own.
Scorpio fans will never go for anything else because Scorpio is the best off-roader vehicle. Fortuner is the beast of an SUV but I still feel it will be a delicate vehicle for jungle safaris and driving through rivers and things like that. Scorpio can handle mud tracks and off-road conditions like no other.
Scorpio cannot be compared with Fortuner and Fortuner with Scorpio . Scorpio is an entry level SUV that a medium Indian family can opt for .Whereas Fortuner costs more than 15 lakhs ,and provides facilities for that price . So its budget thats decide your SUV . If you have money you can definitely go for Fortuner . If your budget is around 10 lakhs , then Safari ,Scorpio and Xylo are best options .
You make me laugh all of you Scorpio is a waste of time ladder chassis relic. Has no safety at all no matter hoe tough it looks engine is rubbish gearbox is rubbish in fact the whole car is way over priced its like comparing a HM Ambasidor to a Skoda it just does no equate. The Scorpio is ok cheap but always will be crap! Face it India cannot design cars to save there life their build quality is shoddy use 80′s technology……. If you really know what went into designing a modern day car and saw how the Scorpio and Safari is made you would be shocked. The both Scorpio and Safari was marketed in europe on launch I think I can count on my hand and feet how many they sold I dont even think they reached the 100 mark between them and they were priced very cheap. Both cars failed the Euro N cap safty test soo bad the cars were deemed the most dangerous 4×4′s being sold on the zuro zone ever… You want to carry your families in one of those be it on your head instead of the cheap indian SUV’s your better off getting something like the SX4…… RealTalk
Another thing The Totota will wipe the floor with the Scorpio off road and on road The Scorpio does not have power shift 4X4 nor limited slip diff for that matter Toyota can compete with the likes of the RANGE ROVER AND LANDROVER off road the Scorpio is just plain RUBBISH on and off road. Th Toyota is used by all sorts off off road people around the world its well establised its also the only car to have made it to the NORTH POLE over ICE Boulders all be it a Pick-up Variant
