Fiat Punto CNG, Sport, Trendz unmasked in Auto Expo 2010 Fiat launched the new car model Punto as a replacement for the famous UNO. After the announcement in 1993, Fiat launched the first version of Punto in 1994. The new replacement for UNO was stylish in its design. Pricing of the new model was also competitive. Punto released in 1994 could compete with Opel Corsa and Volkswagen polo. Soon the new Punto became the loved one of the people of European countries.
This first version of Punto ruled the market till 1999. Second generation of Punto was launched in 1999. Design of the first generation Punto was followed in the second generation. But the second generation Punto had a complete change in its interior and chassis. This version of Punto was fixed with Fiat’s round badge. Engine capacity of this model was 1910cc. This model continued till 2003. In 2003 Fiat Punto Classic was launched. This model has got the Fiat round badge logo affixed in the back side also. There are two petrol engine variants 1.4L and 1.8L. There is also a 1.9L diesel engine. This version of Punto that is Punto Classic is still in production. In 2005 Fiat launched Grand Punto. Fiat has not stopped the production of Punto Classic even after the launch of Grand Punto. Fiat is going to fully explore the untapped potential in Indian small and medium car market. They have taken the first step towards this venture by launching a couple of new models in the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. Fiat has exposed three variants of Grand Punto in the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. They are Punto Sports, Punto CNG and Punto Trendz.

Punto Sports is powered by a 1.3L Multijet Diesel engine. This engine has the property of variable geometry turbo charger. Fiat Linea is also powered by the same engine. A power of 90bhp is produced by the 1.3 L Multijet diesel engines. This power of 90bhp is produced at 4000rpm. Maximum torque produced by this engine is 205Nm. This torque is produced at an rpm of 1750. In Indian market the new Punto Sports have to compete with Maruti Swift and Ritz, Ford Figo, Toyota Etios, Volkswagen polo and Skoda Fabia. On road price of the new Punto Sports would be 6.5 Lakhs.

It has now become common among the car manufacturers to launch flexi fuel vehicles. Since different countries are more and more conscious about the energy crisis and different initiatives are being taken for finding an alternative source of energy, automakers are also launching cars with an alternative fuel option. Fiat is also participating in this race. They have started by exposing the new Grand Punto flexi fuel vehicle. It is known as Punto CNG. But actually the car can be made to run in both CNG and petrol. On road price of the challenging Punto Trendz would be 5.6 Lakhs.
