Chevrolet recently announced the LPG model of Spark on compact car segment . Spark is actually a rebranded version of Daewoo Matiz which was lunched in India along with Hyundai Santro .Santro survived , but Matiz disappeared from Indian markets with bankruptcy of its parent company in Korea . The same Matiz was launched as Chevrolet Spark after the takeover of Daewoo motors by GM . The Gas version of Spark is currently one of the best such model in its class .Chevrolet Spark LPG 2009 was reveled on a grand function that we had a chance to attend.
The special about this gas kit (sequential gas kit) is the its produces only less jerking and sound than venturi type gas kit found current LPG car models in India. Other kits first uses petrol to fire the engine and then gas to continue the drive . But in Chevrolet Spark ,gas does everything from the beginning . The shifting from LPG to petrol is also very smooth and without back firing and jerking.

The major attraction of Chevrolet Spark its maintenance guarantee ,compactness and mileages . Externally it looks compact ,but there is much space inside sufficient for a normal Indian family . The compact nature of Chevrolet Spark makes its the best car for city drive . Though its traits comes from Matiz , the new spark is totally redesigned externally and internally . The sporty looks of the spark comes from its V shaped bonnet , painted head lights , alloy wheels and roof rails designed by Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro .

The recent changes made the internals of the Spark visually more embracing . New beige color makes feeling that its more spacious and throws more light . The GM touch can be seen in its excellent finish from seat fabrics to the plastic used . Meters in center console , good steering , high quality AC vents and knobs , well positioned seats etc . are other few features we notice in first look . The LPG version of Spark comes with central locking and power Windows .There is fire extinguisher under co-driver seat .

LPG tank replaces the position of spare wheel by moving it out of the dicky , thereby reducing a portion of dicky space . Driver door side of the Spark includes a spectacle case at the top . The seats on the back side are 60:40 split or folding type .

The small switch near the steering wheel switches the Chevrolet Spark LPG
from Petrol to gas and vice versa . Spark automatically switches from LPG to petrol when the tank reaches empty . Chevrolet Spark Gas 2009 uses 4 cylinder 8V SOHC MPFI 995 CC a stripped down version of engine that is used in Chevrolet U-VA . The power produced by this engine (63 bhp 4200 rpm 9.21 kgm torque) is not that impressive . It drops further to 60 bhp , 88.4 at 4200 rpm on LPG mode .But the Chevrolet brand name , price level and the service package offered with this car cleanly counter such questions . Chevrolet Spark is very smooth when it is running on gas . Engine produces less sound than Maruti Wagon R , Estilo and Hyundai Santro 2009 . Chevrolet Spark LPG took almost 16 seconds to reach 0-100 km speed in our test drive . Its very stable car and comfortable on city drive .
Chevrolet Spark LPG 2009 mileage :
On Petrol Spark provides excellent mileage near 18.29 kmpl for city drive . LPG drive mode reduces the mileage to around 13.72 kmpl . Assured service warranty and free maintenance is the best thing about Chevrolet Spark . Chevrolet Spark LPG and Petrol model comes with almost same warranty package . You don’t need to spend a single paisa for One lakh km or 3 years , 45000 km or 3 years . Full tank LPG and Petrol will run the car to around 1000 km on which LPG contributes 355 km .
Chevrolet Spark LPG 2009 model India price :
Two models Chevrolet Spark LPG PS and LS cost 3.54 lakhs and 3.71 lakhs respectively (EX-showroom ) . When compared to the near competitors its only near 20000 INR increase for this stable LPG upgrade .
Chevrolet Spark LPG verdict :
Chevi Spark LPG , I would say its the best compact LPG car in India . Its well suited for those who wish to purchase a low cost car with good interiors and with good maintenance package . Company fitted LPG gas kit provides more security ,mileage and confidence on drive . One disadvantage is on the dicky side .
